Walls encase me head to toe,
Thus elaborately constructed,
You heed not to wear them down,
I so helplessly detected.
Years of work therein went,
In one besotted night destroyed,
Vulnerable my new nickname be,
Affections I strove to avoid.
Forced to face my deepest fear
Of allowing the gates to open,
Your poise my inner dread doth sooth,
Your charm my wit has stolen.
Serenely in your arms I lay,
If only for an instant,
A sense of ease as yet unmatched,
Unsettled by the distance.
Time may wait for no man,
But I therein differ,
For you I’d wait a thousand years,
A week, though, would suit me better.
