Saving Nothing by Cynthia Riding

I don't want to hurt you,
but please understand.
Nothing is working,
my heart is in demand.

Everyday I try harder,
everything was so tough.
No matter my feelings,
it wasn't enough.

At first it was special,
my heart was for you.
Everyday we grew closer,
in all we went through.

But as the days ended,
our hearts grew apart.
One day after another,
an argument would start.

Then nothing mattered,
I meant nothing to you.
Neither of us could say,
that you and I were through.

So we tried to stay together,
though the love wasn't there.
One lie after another,
we weren't being fare.

Now it's all over,
there is nothing to save.
All we have left,
are the memories we made.

I love you my dear friend,
for all that you have done.
For the person you made me,
for the heart you once won.

I wish you the best,
in all days to come.
You'll soon find someone special,
maybe she'll be the one.

Please let me be your friend,
you know you'll be mine.
Maybe you'll forgive me,
in a matter of time.

Please understand,
I didn't want to hurt you.
