Things Happen For a Reason
by Kimberly
One evening while chatting with one of my closest friends, we stumbled onto a college website. The website had a free match network and my friend thought it would be fun for each of us to submit a profile about ourselves and see what kind of men would respond. I was hesitant as I was slowly getting out of a bad "relationship", and being engaged twice in my life and being a single mother and student, I had no desire to date anyone for awhile. But after much coaxing, my friend finally had gotten me to agree to it. The next evening when I went to the site, I was extremely amused to find I had already received a few e-mails, mostly from guys who were only out for one thing and seeming to try to sell themselves to me, all I could do was laugh. Then I stumbled onto Jason's. He had simply written that he had never said "that's so like me" to anyone's profile before and that he would like to talk with me online sometime. Although I wasn't out looking for romance, I thought it might be nice to make a new friend so I e-mailed him back.

The next evening he instant messaged me, and we talked for hours. To my surprise, we had more in common than I had previously thought. I found out that he had been engaged as well, and his ex had broken off the engagement around the same time that mine had ended. We shared the same beliefs and as we typed endlessly into the early morning hours every night for a week, we were almost reading each others mind. After two weeks of talking online it was obvious to the two of us that we definately needed to meet in person, so we chose Downtown Disney since it was halfway between our cities. I was extremely nervous because I had never met someone I talked to online before, and I had almost called it off at the last minute. But I had a strong feeling that if I didn't take this huge chance I would regret it for the rest of my life, so against my own judgement I went.

Jason and I had already felt a strong connection with each other from the beginning, and as I walked up to him for the first time it was obvious that it was even stronger in person. We walked along the lake all night and talked as if we had known each other forever. When he kissed me, I felt it in my heart that he was the one I was meant to be with and I later found out that he felt the same as I did that night. He told me that he was in love with me a week later.

Now, four months after his shy e-mail and commuting between our two cities, we are deeply in love and discussing marriage. He has become a huge part of my life as well as my daughter's and has even in spirit adopted her as his own. Although the distance that separates us is at times unbearable, we still manage to keep our relationship strong. I never would have dreamed in a million years that I would have found my soul mate while sitting at my computer.

I am a strong believer that things happen for a reason. Submitting my profile on that website, even if only as a joke, led to so much more than I had thought ever possible. And now, after seeing the coincidences and sheer fate that bring two people together, I have no doubt in my mind that I have found my true love. Our love was written in the stars long before we were born, and it is a love that we know will last an eternity.
